The Kernodle Center for Service Learning recognized a local housing authority Feb. 8 for the agency’s support of Elon University student volunteers and the student Leaders in Collaborative Service program.
Jeff Stein, assistant dean of students, and Tammy Cobb, assistant director for community partnerships, presented a plaque to the Burlington Housing Authority during its commissioner’s meeting.
BHA is among six community non-profits that support the LINCS community based student staff/intern program. Funded through a grant from the Frueauff Foundation, LINCS manage coordination, training, and scheduling of volunteers, as well as communication with the Kernodle Center and campus.
“LINCS build capacity and enhance the quality, quantity and depth of the student volunteers’ experiences through a stronger campus-community connection,” Cobb said.
The collaborative effort between nonprofits and the Kernodle Center creates stronger community relationships and promotes civic engagement by recognizing and addressing the needs of both the community organization and the campus.
