Jerry Tolley, director of annual giving and the Elon Society, had his most recent book on football published last month, with several coaches in the university football program contributing to the effort. It is his fifth book of football drills since 1984.
“The Complete Book of Speed and Agility Football Drills” includes drills from some of the top coaches in both college and professional football. The book includes a foreword from Bobby Bowden, head coach at Florida State University, and is dedicated to Dal Shealy, former president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and currently executive director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Football Coaches’ Ministry.
Head football coach Pete Lembo and assistant coaches Shane Burnham, Rich Skrosky, Scott Browne and Louis Clyburn represented the Elon football program with their submissions to the project. Clyburn has since moved to South Carolina to assume head coaching responsibilities at a high school just minutes from his hometown.
Tolley, an Edenton, N.C., native who serves as mayor of the town of Elon, won 49 of his 62 games as Elon’s head coach from 1977-1981, winning NAIA national championships in 1980 and 1981. He received a lifetime membership award from the American Football Coaches Association and was honored with the Laurel Wreath award in 2002, the highest honor given by the State of North Carolina for achievement in athletics. He received the Johnny Vaught Lifetime Achievement Award from the All-America Football Foundation in 2003.
Tolley’s other football books include “101 Winning Football Drills from the Legends of the Game,” “The American Football Coaches Association Guide Book to Championship Football Drills,” and “The Complete Book of Defensive Football Drills.” His books have been sold in all 50 states and several foreign countries.
Published by Coaches Choice, the book is available for $21.95 at www.coacheschoice.com, or by calling (888) 229-5745.
