A trivia contest that tests knowledge of Elon University’s history is now in its third day with a chance for students, faculty and staff to win gift cards to local businesses. Read this story to learn more and to qualify for a prize from the Student Government Association.
Question: In order to persuade trustees to build their college here, they were offered $4,300 in funds and two plots of land totaling 48 acres. The original campus was built on a 25 acre Oaks grove, the tree for which the college was named. Who donated the original land to Elon College?
(Hint: Among other things, a street in Elon is named after this man.)

Founders Day Trivia Competition
Each weekday from March 5-11, 2008, a new question will be posted onE-Net before 10 a.m. All Elon students, faculty and staff are welcometo submit one answer to foundersday@elon.edu, and at the end of eachday, all correct answers will be pooled and a winner chosen at random.
For help finding theanswers to the trivia questions, check Durward T. Stokes’ book, “ElonCollege: Its History and Traditions.” Answers may be submitted until 6 p.m.
Participants may only win one prize during the daily contests but areeligible to win a grand prize drawn on Founders Day – provided theyhave answered all five trivia questions correctly.
Prize winners will be announced at College Coffee on Tuesday, March 11. The trivia contest is sponsored by SGA.
In celebration of Elon’s 119th birthday, Founders Day will honorWilliam S. Long, who founded what was then Elon College in 1889 andserved as its first president until 1894.
A special chapel program will be held Thursday, March 13, 2008.
