Students Present Research at Economics Conference

Six Elon students presented their research this weekend at the Eastern Economics Association’s annual conference in Boston, MA, March 7-9. The students participated in the undergraduate research sessions sponsored by Issues in Political Economy (http://www.elon.edu/ipe). Issues in Political Economy is the oldest peer-reviewed journal dedicated to undergraduate research in economics in the United States.
The papers presented by Elon students included:

Jamie Hoggard (Mentor: Steve DeLoach) “Coming to America: An Examination of the Effect of Immigration on Bilateral Trade Flows”
 
Erika Lamanna (Mentor: Steve DeLoach) “The Impact of Microcredit on Growth in sub-Saharan Africa”
 
Katherine Parkman (Mentor: Steve DeLoach) “Supersize Me? Productivity and Obesity in Developed Nations”
 
In addition to Elon, participants in the 10-session mini-conference include students from the College of Wooster, Smith College, Washington and Jefferson College, Austin College, SUNY-Potsdam, Furman University, Bryant University, Keene State University, Minnesota State University, VMI, University of Northern Iowa, Wilkes University, Manhattanville College, and the University of Mary Washington.
