A corporate communications faculty search has begun in the School of Communications.
Because
of the pending retirement of a professor, we have an important faculty position
open for someone with expertise in corporate communications (public
relations/advertising), effective August 2008.
The
ideal candidate is someone with a Ph.D. and college-level teaching experience who
would enjoy being at a dynamic private university with a highly collegial
faculty. Our nationally accredited school is home to 900 students and 35
full-time faculty members.
This
tenure-eligible position is offered at the assistant or associate professor
rank (associate professor rank is available to those with six or more years of
full-time college teaching). Elon does not offer tenure at the point of
employment; a four-year period at Elon typically is required. The university
has a successful history of faculty members tenured elsewhere coming at various
ranks and, four years later, receiving tenure.
Our
new colleague will teach courses in public relations, advertising, strategic
writing, corporate campaigns, and core courses in the School of Communications.
Faculty members often participate in Study Abroad and the university’s General
Studies.
Faculty
members teach two courses most semesters and a course in the January Winter
Term, with scholarship and service expectations appropriate for a
teaching-focused university.
To
support the academic mission, the School of Communications is in the process of
taking occupancy of a downtown building that will house our entrepreneurial
student-run agency, Live Oak Communications. Also, the school’s PRSSA chapter
is 120 students strong and won the 2006 national Pacesetter Award, and the student
Bateman team finished third in the nation last year. In addition, the school
anticipates starting an innovative M.A. in Interactive Media program, effective
Fall 2009.
Please
send a cover letter, CV and list of three references to Search Committee,

finalists to campus during April.
