Bonnie McAlister, executive coach in residence at Elon University School of Law, presented a paper at the Association of Law Teachers (ALT) conference, held March 16-18 at St. Anne's College of Oxford University.
McAlister’s paper, titled “Teaching Law Today: A Communication Professor’s Perspective,” offered tips to law teachers on ways to communicate in a more effective manner with students during classroom lectures. Her presentation covered topics such as proper breathing, distribution of eye contact, vocal variety, deletion of verbal pauses during speech, avoidance of nervous habits and management of visuals and technology.
The conference, which attracted law professors from the U.S., United Kingdom and Europe, was designed to enhance the teaching of law and student satisfaction with the classroom experience.
