Dale Harrison, assistant director of the Sunshine Center and instructor in the School of Communications, and Hunter Bacot, associate professor of political science, presented Saturday at the first annual North Carolina College Media Association conference at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
The all-day conference centered on how to cover national andstate politics in this important election year. Harrison’s presentation, titled“What the Sunshine Center Can Do For You,” focused on open government lawsnationwide and in North Carolina. He showed the attendees a brief clip thatexplained open meetings and open records laws and led the gathered audience ina quiz about open government issues.
Bacot, the director of the Elon Poll, led a session titled, “UnderstandingPolls and Polling.” He focused on what goes into the polling process and how tointerpret poll results.
Next year’s conference is tentatively scheduled for Februaryat North Carolina State University.
