N.C. Press Foundation Offers Grant to N.C. Open Government Coalition

The North Carolina Press Foundation voted unanimously at is February meeting to pledge a $30,000 endowment grant to the North Carolina Open Government Coalition.

The grant will be paid in three annual installments of$10,000 starting in July 2008.

“I’m thrilled that the North Carolina Press Foundation made such a generous gift to the endowment for the North Carolina Open Government Coalition,” said Sue Price Wilson, AP bureau chief for North and South Carolina. “This gift helps ensure the mission we share, supporting openness in government, can continue its work through the Sunshine Center and the other work of the coalition.”

 

The press foundation’s grant was offered to help the N.C.Open Government Coalition reach its $500,000 goal to match a challenge grantfrom the Knight Foundation.

“The North Carolina Press Foundation is delighted to offer this support to the coalition,” said Gayle J. Smith, president of the NCPF’s board of directors and advertising director for the Asheville Citizen-Times. “We share a common and unshakeable goal: to educate the public about the First Amendment and open government issues.”

 

Elon University’s School of Communications runs the coalition’sSunshine Center.
