“Reclaiming Democracy” community conversation April 26

Elon University is one of six participating schools hosting an afternoon conversation, based on a course taught this semester by faculty at the colleges, about the ways people can make a more inclusive democratic process to meet the needs of a community.

The event is free and open to the public.

LOCATION: UNC-Greensboro’s 101 Science Building Auditorium

More than 90 students and community members have enrolled in the course.

“Our class has featured hearty discussion, musical presentations, vigorous investigation, films, and critical examination of core democratic concerns—education, human rights, and economics,” Spoma Jovanovic, an associate professor at UNCG who helps teach the course, writes in an email. “Students and community members have worked collaboratively to identify pressing issues, consider obstacles to democracy, and take important actions for our community.”

Participating schools include the following: Bennett College, Elon University, Greensboro College, Guilford College, N.C. A&T State University and UNC-Greensboro.
