Members of the Class of 2008, along with their parents, grandparents and friends, have contributed more than $18,000 to the Senior Class Gift Campaign for Student Initiative Grants – money that will support students who want to organize future service opportunities.
Class president Lauren Murphree presented a check for $18,008 to President Leo M. Lambert on May 24 prior to Commencement ceremonies.
Directed by class Secretary Lauren Durr, class leaders encouraged classmates to demonstrate their commitment to giving back to Elon before they graduate. Students will be able to apply for up to $1,000 through the Kernodle Center for Service Learning to address a pressing community need.
Parents, grandparents and friends also contributed this year to the campaign, making gifts in honor of their graduating seniors. A total of 355 people made gifts for the Class of 2008 gift.
The university relies on annual gifts from alumni, parents, students and friends each year to support the best of an Elon education: excellent faculty, outstanding facilities, scholarships and signature programs such as study abroad, internships, research and service learning.
