David Noer, the Frank S. Holt Jr. Professor of Business Leadership at Elon, had a column published June 1, 2008, in the (Greensboro, N.C.) News & Record. The column, "Rate Greensboro's Future," dealt with rating the preferred future vision of Greensboro and the region on three scales.
The first was an orientation toward the rural south (Dogpatch) versus an orientation toward urban efficiency (Gotham).
The second was a focus on comfortable peer relationships (Tribal Enclaves) or a focus on the larger community (Community Synergy)
The third was a limited internal perspective (Local Yokels) or an understanding of the global economy (Global Citizens).
