Professor of History Clyde Ellis’s scholarship on contemporary American Indian powwow culture is the subject of a recent story published in Indian Country Today, the nation’s largest newspaper devoted to American Indian issues. The story, which discusses the research and conclusions in Ellis’s two most recent books, A Dancing People: Powwow Culture on the Southern Plains (2003), and Powwow (2006), appeared in the paper’s June 4th edition and can be found at the link posted below. Ellis has authored four books and more than a dozen essays on American Indian history and culture since joining Elon’s faculty in 1995, and is currently writing an ethnography of the Indian hobbyist movement in the United States.
