Justine Davis, a 2008 graduate of Elon University, has had her international studies senior seminar paper accepted for publication in the journal Explorations: The Journal of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities for the State of North Carolina.
The paper, “Assessing the International Appeal of Women’s Peace Organizations in the Casamance Conflict, Senegal,” examines the factors that influence international support for the groups. The abstract for the paper reads in part:
“The research presented is based on field work conducted in Dakar, Senegal and Ziguinchor, Senegal from January 2007 to May 2007. This paper argues that when peace organizations and INGOs (international non-governmental organizations) have similar organizational structures, goals, and needs, these organizations are more attractive to western donors. In addition, the existence of accessible leaders and the added benefit of working with regional peace networks are also examined as characteristics of success in receiving international attention.
“The success in receiving international support was measured by the amount of funding they received and the number of organizations with whom they worked.”
