Gary Palin, a senior lectuerer and the new executive director of the Love School of Business Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, represented Elon University at the inaugural Europe workshop of the Social Entrepreneurship and Education Consortium (SEEC) on July 8-10 in Sønderborg, Denmark.

Elon University Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, Stanford University- based Social eChallenge, MIT IDEAS and the University of Aarhus are the founding members of SEEC.  The consortium is for organizations leading university social entrepreneurship activities, competitions, curriculum and academic research.

The objective of the consortium is to share best practices, exchange ideas, form collaborations and to develop better integrated strategies. This community will allow all individuals interested in university social entrepreneurship activities to establish new discussions, continue previous interactions and learn more about other programs and initiatives.

“Having an entrepreneurship professor of Gary Palin’s stature, experience and reputation added tremendous value to the SEEC Europe workshop,” said Rebeca Hwang of Stanford University. “He is uniquely outstanding at bringing a group of movers and shakers together and at guiding them to deliver amazing collaboration initiatives. His keynote presentation and his characteristic warmth and charisma set the tone for a successful and productive workshop. We were truly fortunate to have his participation.”

Palin, a founder of SEEC, was the keynote speaker of the workshop and lead discussions on the drivers for social entrepreneurship at universities and the role of students and faculty on driving the creation of social ventures.

Joergen Clausen, CEO of Danfoss Group Global and Chairman of the Danish Entrepreneurship Foundation, welcomed the 45 attendees, representing three continents and nine countries, participating in the three-day workshop at the University of Aarhus Conference Centre at Sandbjerg Estate.

“The blend of students, faculty, university leaders and social entrepreneurs at the workshop provided a unique and energetic atmosphere.  The workshop outcomes were action oriented and I look forward to the resulting long term impact SEEC will have on this emerging field of social entrepreneurship,” Palin said.

Future workshops are being planned for Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America.  Additional information on SEEC can be found at www.seecglobal.org.
