Elon is among more than 70 colleges and universities recognized on a special "Green Colleges" Web site created by the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). The site details initiatives on campuses that promote environmental sustainability.
Elon, like other schools on the list, has taken many steps towards a
more sustainable campus. In 2006-07, plans were made to reduce carbon
emissions, inform the campus about sustainability issues and identify
actions that can be taken to promote environmental quality. Elaine R.
Durr was hired to be Elon’s first sustainability coordinator and began
working in May, around the same time that Elon began construction on
Lindner Hall. This new building in the Academic Village will be the
“greenest” building on campus when it openss in fall 2009. To find out
