Two student-run television programs at Elon – Phoenix14News and Win Stuff – won top awards this summer in both the Communicator and Telly Awards national competitions.
Phoenix14News was recently awarded six Telly Awards for a promotional video it shot and produced. The organization won three Silver Telly’s (the highest honor awarded) for the student category, the editing category and the videography/cinematography category. The Telly Awards are the premier award organization honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions.
Each year, Telly, an independent company, receives in excess of 14,000 entries, including prominent names such as Warner Bros., Lockheed Martin and PGA Tour Productions.
Phoenix14News and WinStuff were also awarded two Communicator Awards. Phoenix14News won two Awards of Distinction for its “Alcohol Special” and its “Halloween Special.” Win Stuff won an Award of Distinction and an Award of Excellence (the highest honor) for two of their game shows.
The Communicator Awards are sanctioned and judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from a “Who’s Who” of acclaimed media, communications, advertising, creative and marketing firms. IAVA members include executives from organizations such as Coach, Disney, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Estee Lauder, HBO, Monster.com, MTV, Polo Ralph Lauren, Victoria’s Secret, Wired and Yahoo!
Phoenix14News is a student run and produced weekly newscast that pursues new and original stories each week and live action broadcasts cover stories that go “Beyond the Headlines.” Win Stuff is Elon’s pop culture game show that contains trivia questions from the 80s, 90s and today. Students create questions for each show that challenge three contestants on their knowledge of pop culture trivia.
