Durr has a master’s degree in Earth and environmental resources management from the University of South Carolina School of the Environment, where she wrote a thesis focused on the water efficiency credits within Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), a green building rating system. She is a LEED-accredited professional and graduated summa cum laude in 2004 with a degree in environmental science and biology from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Ill.
In her consulting work at Energy Ace, Inc., Durr has managed the certification process for LEED projects. She previously served as assistant project manager and assistant LEED certification manager for Choate Construction Company, Charlotte, N.C.
“We are extremely pleased that Elaine Durr has agreed to join Elon and provide leadership for our efforts to reduce the university’s environmental impact,” said Gerald Whittington, vice president for business, finance and technology. “With extensive experience and knowledge of sustainability issues, Elaine will be a tremendous asset for this important Elon initiative.”
Elon developed its sustainability master plan in 2006-07, outlining a plan to reduce carbon emissions, inform the campus about sustainability issues and identify actions that can be taken to promote environmental quality.
Durr will begin her duties at Elon May 27.
