Assistant professor Amanda Gallagher co-authored a paper that will be published in Newspaper Research Journal in winter of 2009.
Gallagher, along with two of her former colleagues from Texas Tech University, studied the types of sources (official and unofficial) quoted in newspaper articles related to hurricanes Katrina and Rita in a manuscript titled, “Civic Respondents: A Content Analysis of Sources Quoted in Newspaper Coverage of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.”
Gallagher and the authors found that contrary to what many think official sources were not used in the stories as much as unofficial sources regardless of the focus of the story itself.
