Elon Law hosts first “Family and Friends Day”

Elon University School of Law hosted its first "Family and Friends Day" on Sept. 13, 2008, with more than 250 students, parents, siblings, spouses, and friends spending the morning at the law school for a mock class and a question-and-answer panel.

Professor Steve Friedland taught the mock class, which featured a brief introduction into criminal and constitutional law.  Friedland encouraged everyone to participate and presented legal and moral questions to challenge the students and their families.

The question-and-answer panel featured a parent, child, spouse and law student. Audience members asked questions about what life is like living with a law student, which semester is the most difficult, and what types of summer internships Elon Law students have occupied.

In addition to the events, door prizes were awarded and family portraits taken. After finishing the activities at the law school, many students and their families watched Elon’s football team defeat Presbyterian and then stayed for fireworks that followed the game.

“It was a great opportunity to see and experience what our loved ones go through on a daily basis,” said Alan Taylor, father of third-year law student Melissa Duncan. “Elon Law did a great job in making us all feel welcomed and a part of the Elon Law family.  I know this is a tradition that will be around for a long time.”
