Elon’s Women’s and Gender Studies program presents “Running in High Heels,” a provocative documentary about women and politics. Two screenings will be held: Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 7:00 p.m. (McEwen 011) and Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 12:25 p.m. (Yeager Auditorium). A discussion will follow each screening.
Wrapped around the story of one young woman’s bid for office, women’s leadership is examined in a non-partisan discussion with women from the right and the left of the political spectrum, featuring: Myrna Blyth, author of Spin Sisters and former editor-in-chief of Ladies Home Journal; Dr. Heidi Hartmann, founder of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research; Sherrye Henry, author of the Deep Divide, aide to Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, and former N.Y. state Senate candidate; Phyllis Schlafly, conservative activist and author; and Eleanor Smeal, women’s activist and president of the Feminist Majority Foundation.
