Shannon Duvall participated in a panel presentation entitled “The ABCs for ABDs” at the Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Computing on October 2nd in Keystone, Colorado. The “ABD”, or “All-But-Dissertation” stage of graduate school presents many challenges, especially when the graduate student is also actively pursuing a career or starting a family. The panel presented strategies for completing graduate school in Computer Science, such as time management, finding motivation, and communicating with advisors. The panel also included women from Kent State University, the University of Geneva, and the Intel Corporation. The Grace Hopper Celebration is the leading conference for promoting women in computing, and over 1400 people participated in this year’s event.
