Elon Law students joined the Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association, local volunteers and law students from around the region on Oct. 25 for “Wills for Heroes,” a day set aside to draft legal documents for more than 300 emergency responders.
Now in its fourth year of sponsorship by the bar association, “Wills for Heroes” provided an opportunity for Elon Law students to witness firsthand estate planning performed by local attorneys for police, paramedics, firefighters and their spouses.
The event generated more than 900 will, power of attorney, and health care power of attorney documents, a record-breaking number that exceeded expectations set by the YLD.
Twelve Elon Law students volunteered for the event. They acted as witnesses for legal documents and notarization of signatures, and they assisted with general proof reading. Student volunteers included the following:
– David Morrow
– Ashley Shelton
– Matthew Moore
– Michele Andrejco
– Jeb Brooks
– Rebecca Branz
– Ross Simpson
– Kristin McAbee
– Justin Cohee
– Matthew Groves
– David Stephens
– Amy Williams
