Elon University journalism students provided coverage of the 2008 election, including stories about a spontaneous student celebration following the announcement of Barack Obama's election as president.
An estimated 300 students gathered outside residence halls, marched through campus and then formed a circle on Young Commons to sing the National Anthem and pray The Lord’s Prayer.
Journalism students Emily Silva and Miriam Williamson covered the events with video and blogs for their School of Communications reporting class led by faculty member Janna Quitney Anderson. See their blogs at the links below…
The story was also covered by The Pendulum, which had comprehensive coverage of the election on its Web site. See the Pendulum story about the celebration at: http://www.elon.edu/pendulum/Story.aspx?id=1243
Meantime, Phoenix 14 News, the student-produced television news program, produced five and a half hours of live election coverage. Local TV station WFMY carried a story about the Phoenix 14 election coverage.
