Students in April Post’s Spanish conversation classes and Glenda Crawford’s senior capstone seminars are involved with an academic service-learning initiative with young adolescents who are English language learners at Turrentine Middle School in the Alamance-Burlington Schools.
Supported by a grant from the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL), the Amigos Club is a cross-cultural experience in which Elon students conduct ethnographic inquiry through a series of after-school and weekend social events.
These activities include a visit to campus for a football game, a school beautification service project, and a multicultural family dinner. The research is captured through digital storytelling as a culminating project for the Elon courses.
