Elon junior John Schimmelfing finished with a silver medal in Masters at this summer's South African International Jump Rope Tournament in Capetown, South Africa. The chemistry major earned gold medals in freestyle and power and a bronze in speed.
Schimmelfing also competed in the Team category of the World Rope Skipping Championships with four other SkipSations! teammates, who had qualified for the U.S. National Jump Rope Team in January and included his sister, Anna, a 2007 Elon graduate.
The group finished 6th overall in the Team category.
Teams from over 20 countries around the world competed in the jump rope events. Masters competition had three events – speed, power and freestyle. Team events included a 4-person speed and power relay, Double Dutch singles and pairs, pairs with 2 jumpers, and a 4-person freestyle group routine.
Schimmelfing also competed in the 2004 World Championships in Australia. He and other members of the SkipSations! Jump Rope Team will be performing at the basketball game halftime on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008.
