Mary Gowan elected to Alamance Chamber of Commerce, SHRM Foundation board

Mary Gowan, dean of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, was elected to a three-year term with the Alamance Chamber of Commerce in Alamance County, North Carolina.

She has been on the board since 2008 when she was appointed to fill a vacancy created through a recent resignation.

Gowan has also been reelected to a second three-year term with the Society for Human Resource Management Foundation Board of Directors and selected as chair of the Research Applications Committee.

According to the SHRM charter, the Research Applications Committee “oversees the idea generation and creation of new SHRM Foundation research-based products in alignment with the Foundation’s mission and goals. Special emphasis is placed on disseminating Foundation research results to a practitioner audience.”

The Committee publishes Effective Practice Guidelines on human resource management topics such as employee engagement and produces an educational DVD series presenting real-world case studies of strategic human resources in practice.

Elon student Katherine (Kasey) Joseph received a $500 SHRM Certification Award to prepare for her HR certification exam, which she recently passed.
