Steven Friedland, a senior scholar and professor at the Elon University School of Law, offered statewide cable news channel News 14 Carolina legal analysis of a federal case against one of two people charged in the March 2008 murder of UNC student body president Eve Carson.
Demario Atwater, a defendant facing the death penalty for the crime, made a court appearance in Greensboro, N.C., on Feb. 25. The News 14 report examined the legal processes behind the case.
“Many people form opinions very quickly, and that’s very natural so this is going to be a tough case to find that kind of jury that can be neutral about what happened and judge it based on the facts,” Friedland told News 14 reporter Stephanie Stiwell.
