Elon students are required to live on-campus for the first two years. If students wish to live off-campus for their sophomore year, they must apply for release to the Housing Appeals Committee.
Important: Appeals are not guaranteed! DO NOT sign an off-campus lease until your appeal has been granted.
To appeal you must complete the following steps:
- Complete an Appeal Application Form (See website)
- A letter must be submitted to the
Appeals Committee
c/o Nadia Alamo, Associate Director of Residence Life
2980 Campus Box
Moseley Center 213
- Specific reasons for canceling your housing agreement must be stated, why your needs would be better met off-campus, and you must also include all of the steps you have taken to try to solve the situation (i.e. you talked with your RAC,SRA,RA or AD, etc.)
- Your request must be received five days prior to each scheduled meeting in Residence Life (Moseley 213) by 12:00 p.m.
- The student’s submitted letter and documentation will be reviewed by the Appeals Committee. The Committee will meet and make a recommendation to the Associate Director of Residence Life Operations and Information Management regarding your appeal. The committee will evaluate whether your needs can be met on campus and all possible ways to alleviate said problem(s) have been pursued.
- You will be notified in writing within 5 business days following the Appeals Committee meeting as to their decision. Please make sure you have other options if your appeal is not granted. Appeals are only granted in special instances.
