Iron Tree Blooming, Elon’s only meditation society, invites the Elon community to come and meditate!
This week’s sit includes speaker Anthony Weston. Weston is a professor of philosophy and environmental studies at Elon. He is the 2007 recipient of the Elon Distinguished Scholar Award. He has also taught for the Royal Roads University in British Columbia and led the Fall 2008 Elon Semester Abroad Program to Costa Rica.
Weston teaches awide variety of classes at Elon including Marx, Darwin, & Freud, Environmental Ethics, Magic in the Land, and Millennial Imagination. Most notable is his course on Zen in Theory and Practice. The course is an intensive study of daily Zen Buddhist meditative practices. It is taught in collaboration with the North Carolina Zen Center and leader, Sandy Gentei Stewart. As a culmination of study, students conclude the course with a four day intensive retreat at the Zen Center.
Come listen to Weston’s insight as a facilitator to this course and learn about his own personal Zen background. It should prove to be a fascinating look at the academic and personal motivations that lead us to study Zen.
Join this Tuesday at 4:15 for our sit in Belk Pavilion (Academic Village) Room 208. No experience necessary. All are welcome!
