The winners of the 50/50 Film Festival were announced at this week's award reception following a screening of all the films in Yeager Recital Hall.
Senior Peyton Lea took first place for his film, “Life According to Garry,” junior Max Cantor and his team came in second place for “My Brother,” Best Male Performance went to senior Malik Daniels and Best Female Performance was given to freshman Kabby Borders.
All of the films, which were created by students from the School of Communications and the Department of Performing Arts, were showcased on YouTube and the 50/50 blog, elon5050.wordpress.com, for a week. “Identity,” directed by junior Mike Allen, received more than 3,000 hits on YouTube, making it the Audience Award winner, for which Allen received a $100 prize.
Participants in the festival created their films in one weekend within a 50-word, 50-hour time limit. This year’s theme and inspiration was “The Other: What is it like to be the only one?” Eight films were completed, including Lea’s, which came from Ireland where he is studying abroad. The 50/50 Film Festival is a collaboration between Project Pericles, the School of Communications and the Department of Performing Arts.
