The Rescue (of Joseph Kony’s child soldiers) – April 25

Since 1986, the nation of Uganda has been at war with Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army.  For the past four years the organization Invisible Children have been working tirelessly to end the war. We’ve screened multiple films; we’ve had rally events; we’ve lobbied our government representatives; we’ve sold thousands of bracelets; we’ve displaced ourselves; we’ve night commuted; we’ve done it all.  And the war still has not ended.  So this year, we’re taking action in a very big way.  0n April 25, in more than 100 cities across the United States, and in 13 countries across the world, we are going to be abducting ourselves to bring light to the abducted in an event called “The Rescue”.

On that day, Elon’s Invisible Children club will be traveling to the nearest Rescue event in Raleigh, N.C.  We will get there for the event’s start at around 3 p.m. and will walk single file, much like the children who are abducted in their families, from Pullen Park to the Capital Building in downtown Raleigh 2.2 miles away.  We will then wait for an individual of influence in the media to come and Rescue us by committing themselves to working towards helping do all they can to end the war in northern Uganda.  Once we have been rescued, we will leave the Capital Building at dawn to return safely “home”.

If you are interested in participating in an event that is shaping up to be a defining moment in American and possibly world history, then please contact Travis Watts (twatts2@elon.edu) to learn how to travel with Elon. More than 57,000 people have already committed themselves to attend this event across the world. Come to The Rescue and be part of history!

Note: Service hours will be given to students who attend The Rescue with Elon.  If you plan to go to Raleigh on your own, simply sign up at The Rescue home page (http://therescue.invisiblechildren.com).  If you plan to go with Elon, stop by Mosely this week to pick up a medical release form.
