Job Description:
Elon University’s Career Services office is seeking a PR/Marketing Intern for the 2009-2010 school year to assist with communicating services, initiatives, events and products via web, print and other online interactive mediums. The intern will serve as a member/student representative of the PR/Marketing ACTION Team, an integral part of Career Services’ strategic communications efforts.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in the conceptualization and facilitation of PR/marketing initiatives
• Produce relevant and meaningful posters and presentations, and ensure they are produced in a timely fashion
• Utilize Web 2.0 resources (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) to promote various Career Services activities, events, and products
• Research and develop new and innovative PR/marketing multimedia (e.g. photography, video, audio) products
• Assist office branding efforts
• Participate in the behind the scenes planning of marketing/PR events
• Assist with the execution of various Career Services events
• Assist in the determination of relevant promotion items and giveaways for career fairs and other events
• Support in the creation of a method for tracking PR/marketing efforts and outcomes
• Stay current with new technologies and update staff on these technologies (and possible uses with Career Services)
• Provide valuable student feedback regarding past PR/Marketing efforts
The intern will work closely with Ross Wade, Assistant Director of Career Services – School of Communications, to create meaningful goals and strategies for achieving those goals, conceptualizing purposeful projects and brainstorming ideas. Relevant and diverse portfolio materials will be created during this year long internship.
Qualifications:
Students of ANY MAJOR may apply. Great attitude, comfort with public speaking and talking on the phone with professionals, enthusiasm for media/PR/marketing, sense of humor, strong ability to work independently on projects, basic event management skills, strong writing skills, ability to meet deadlines, schedule flexibility, and initiative and follow-through skills are a MUST. The intern must be HIGHLY CREATIVE and INNOVATIVE. Proficient with: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Photoshop; Indesign. Prefer student with skills in: video production, FinalCut Pro, Flash and Dreamweaver. Strong understanding of PR and marketing. Student must have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
