The Elon University Board of Trustees inducted new member C. Ashton Newhall at its spring meeting, which was held April 17-18 on campus. Newhall is a 1998 Elon alumnus and co-founder of Montagu Newhall Associates, a venture capital firm headquartered in Owings Mills, Md.
Newhall’s firm manages multiple funds with a combined total of more than $1.5 billion in committed capital invested by, corporate pension funds, endowments, foundations, superannuation funds and family offices. On behalf of these clients, Ashton has been responsible for over 98 Partnership and 34 Directs Investments. Montagu Newhall Associates, Inc. also maintains offices in Redwood City, Calif., and London, England.
Newhall also serves on the boards of Domain Associates, the limited partners board for Frazier Healthcare Ventures, QuestMark Partners, and the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association Selection Committee. He is a former board member of ForHealth Technologies, Inc., GenVault Corporation and Zonare Medical Systems, Inc.
In 2003 Newhall was appointed to the advisory board of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business and in 2007 was recognized as Elon’s Young Alumnus of the Year.
While a student at Elon, Newhall was president of the Student Government Association and a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity and Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He completed study abroad programs at the University of Ghana in Legon, Ghana, and at Curtin University in Perth, Australia.
Following graduation, Newhall joined T. Rowe Price Associates, where he was one of the youngest marketers of the firm’s investment management services to both institutions and high net worth investors.
