Spinoza defeats Descartes in philosophy department debate

Elon philosophy faculty members held a raucous debate called “Philosophical Survivor” as part of the Celebration of Faculty Scholarship sessions on April 28. Eight professors took on the roles of some of history’s greatest philosophers, answering fundamental questions in seven rounds of questioning. Students in the audience voted in each round to eliminate professors, similar to the format of the TV reality show, “Survivor.”

Futrell conducts the Elon University Chorale, Camerata, Festival Chorus and Orchestra, combined with the Front Street UMC Chancel Choir and the North State Chorale, on April 30 in an hour and a half performance of Handel’s master work. The McCrary Theatre event is free and open to the public.

On April 24, thirty freshman from Guilford County’s Walter Hines Page High School participated in mock trials in the Robert E. Long Court Room at Elon University School of Law, as the culminating experience of their three month introduction to trial advocacy taught by students from Elon Law.
