The Martha and Spencer Love School of Business honored the Business Fellows Class of 2009 at a May 22 medallion ceremony in the LaRose Digital Theatre.
After a welcome by Rebecca Hampton, Caleb Beyer described the Fellows’ academic achievements and travels, which included a September 2008 trip to Wall Street, at the height of the financial crisis. Garrett Pittenger described the challenges faced by the seniors in the Portfolio Management class, which involved managing a part of the Elon University Endowment. He noted that the team met their basic goal, which is to outperform the S&P 500 Index; in fact, this year’s team outperformed the S&P by the largest margin in the history of the Portfolio Management project. Elizabeth Lenahan shared highlights of the seniors in the Project Management class, including a recent weekend-long project landscaping the grounds of the United Way of Alamance County and the publication of two issues of the Business Fellows Alumni Newsletter.
LSB Dean Mary Gowan gave the charge to the graduating Business Fellows, noting their accomplishments and encouraging them to stay connected with the LSB as they begin their professional careers. Dean Gowan and Associate Dean Scott Buechler presented the 24 fellows with medallions, and Dr. Buechler praised each recipient’s academic accomplishments at Elon and in the Love School of Business. Dr. Wonhi Synn, advisor for the Portfolio Management project, and Dr. Coleman Rich, advisor for Project Management class, were presented with tokens of appreciation by the 2009 Business Fellows class.
The mission of the Business Fellows Program is to develop leaders among majors in accounting, business administration, and economics through academic challenge and by encouraging leadership in the Love School of Business and Elon University.
