The nationally acclaimed political web site RealClearPolitics quoted Hunter Bacot, director of the Elon University Poll, in a June 3 article that examines North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr’s prospects for re-election in 2010.
Reporter Kyle Trygstad writes in his story “With No Challenger, Burr’s In No Trouble” that the Republican Burr, despite representing a state that as trended Democratic in recent elections, currently faces few electoral roadblocks to re-election.
From the article:
“To defeat Burr, you’re going to need a conservative Democrat, and if you can get through a primary, you’re going to give him a run for his money,” Bacot said. “The majority of Democrats in North Carolina are moderate, and 25 percent are conservative Democrats – Reagan Democrats – who will vote Republican.”
