Jeffrey D. Clark, whose career has taken him to theatre companies in Massachusetts, Missouri and North Carolina, has been named the new executive director of cultural and special programs at Elon University.
Clark assumed duties this week for George Troxler, a professor of history who stepped down at the end of the semester as dean of cultural and special programs, a position he had held for 23 years. Responsibilities include coordinating campus Convocations, Commencements and other major events. Clark will work closely with music and the arts, and he will be in charge of bringing performers and guest speakers to the university.
“Elon’s people and its high standards are the best there are and that is the main reason I wanted to come here,” Clark said. “I look forward to many years of helping the university be the best that it can be.”
Clark brings with him to Elon more than 13 years of experience. He most recently served as executive director for the Blowing Rock Community Arts Center Foundation, overseeing the theatre’s operations, budget and the construction of a new $10 million facility.
An originating production manager for five Broadway productions, Clark is a founding member of the Production Manager’s Forum, an international organization established to assist production managers.
He has also worked as associate artistic director for production at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in Kansas City, Mo., production manager for the Huntington Theatre Company at Boston University, and production manager of Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, R.I.
Clark’s experience encompasses electric, sound, carpenter and technical responsibilities. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University.
