Makemson’s book “Media, NASA, and America’s Quest for the Moon” examines the relationship NASA shared with reporters during the 1960s as the nation started sending men into space.

With the July 20 anniversary taking place this month, coupled with the death of broadcast legend Walter Cronkite, reporters have sought Makemson’s expertise for their coverage of events.

Makemson appeared on WFMY News 2’s evening broadcast on July 17. A few hours later, he was interviewed live from the set of Fox 8 WGHP in High Point, N.C., which was covering Cronkite’s passing.

The Times-News in Burlington, N.C., published a lengthy featured online on July 19 about his work. Makemson appeared again on July 20 to talk live with Fox 8 morning news anchor Bob Buckley about the manned space program.
