Elon University has debuted its new Web site home page along with a new global site navigation header and several new top-level pages. The new design is the result of six months of work led by the University Relations Web team of David Morton, John David Parsons and Tim Paulson.
The design team reviewed best practices and designs on the nation’s top university Web sites. A focus group made up of more than 40 faculty, staff and students provided valuable input on the site design throughout the summer, refining page designs and the organization of links on the page header.
The new Web site provides a wider page layout to take advantage of modern browser capabilities. The home page features core messages about Elon, an E-Net news feed and videos of students, faculty and staff talking about the university.
The new global header provides greatly expanded link options to provide easier access to more areas of Elon’s Web site. New pages for students and faculty/staff provide quick access to resources used by those constituencies. Be sure to explore those pages carefully to find links to the Web resources you use most frequently.
There is also a new INFO page, a “Connect Elon” page for new media resources, and a new Academics home page.
The tools link includes a new A-Z site index and a link to a new Elon Mobile Web site, specially designed for cell phone Web access. The page footers provide quick access to Emergency information, campus directories and maps.
Over the next several weeks, the Web team will be working to redesign department pages to incorporate the new header on more Elon Web pages.
If you have comments on the new Web pages, or suggestions for placement of links, you may send them to me or any other member of the University Relations staff.
We hope you like the new Web site and take full advantage of its new features and functions.
