Maggie Mial, a sophomore music theatre major, received the Gregory Hines Scholarship Award this summer during her participation in the Broadway Theatre Project, a musical arts education program for high school and college students held each year in Tampa.
The award allows Mial to take part in the three-week program on a full scholarship in 2010, which would mark her third year in the program. Mial also served as a teaching assistant during her studies in Tampa in July.
The scholarship was created to memorialize the late Gregory Hines, a featured teacher and artist at Broadway Theatre Project for many years.
According to its web site, the BTP’s mission “is to provide educational excellence and to mold a creative, collaborative, well rounded, professional musical theatre arts performer.” The organization was founded in 1991 and focuses on the disciplines of musical theatre, including acting, dance and voice.
Dave Clemmons, BTP’s associate music director and director of recruitment & career development, has previously lectured at Elon.
