Tim McMahon, an assistant professor in the School of Communications, led a half-day session with 100 representatives of motorsports sponsors, agencies, tracks, race teams exploring business-to-business development opportunities Aug. 27 in Atlanta.
The session was aimed at identifying potential partners to execute strategic alliances to meet business needs. Representative from Aflac, Nationwide, Cintas, MillerCoors, Coca-Cola, Office Depot, SunTrust, Bank of America, UPS, NASCAR, Earnhardt Gnassi Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing, Michigan International Speedway, and many more participated in the event.
“One of the most pleasant surprises was the number of times that people came up to me and remarked positively about Elon University,” McMahon said. “If I had a dime for every time someone told me ‘Elon is on the rise’ I could pay for College Coffee.”
McMahon has been called on to facilitate such events because his 25 years of professional experience. In his corporate life, he negotiated sponsorships and alliances with NASCAR, ESPN, Joe Gibbs Racing, the Big East and others. Most recently as a professional, he served as senior vice president for corporate marketing and communications at ConAgra Foods, a Fortune 100 company.
