Lynn R. Heinrichs, an associate professor of computing sciences and business administration, co-presented a paper, “A Comparison of Student Use and Understanding of Text Messaging Shorthand at Two Universities,” at the annual meeting of the International Association for Computer Information Systems.
Text and instant messaging have introduced a new shorthand vocabulary (e.g. TTYL and LOL) for communication in today’s world. The exploratory study compared the shorthand practices, perceptions of appropriateness, and vocabularies of business students at two different institutions.
