Junior journalism major Pam Richter was named a national finalist in the Online Opinion and Commentary category of Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence awards competition. She collected her award at SPJ’s national convention Aug. 28 in Indianapolis.
Richter submitted columns that were published both in the Greensboro News & Record and on its Web site. The columns she entered were:
- “Kay Yow’s legacy includes passion, grace and power”
- “Editorial Essay: Drinking age should stay 21”
- “Editorial Essay: Don’t end political activism”
- “Editorial Essay: Home is where your vote is”
Richter currently serves as the sports editor at The Pendulum and acted as its summer editor.
