On September 11, British Member of Parliament Alistair Burt will visit Elon University School of Law, delivering a presentation titled, "Current UK - USA Legal and Political Relations during the rise of Globalization."
Burt’s address will focus on current political conditions in the United Kingdom regarding the recent decision to release Lockerbie bomber Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi from prison.
Burt obtained his law degree from Oxford University and was admitted to the practice of law in 1980. He became a Member of Parliament in 1983, serving in a series of positions in the government and the UK Conservative Party for over 20 years. He is active in international policy discussions between his party and the Parliament of the European Union and governments of the Middle East, and is a member of the Conservative Party’s Mission to Rwanda.
