Randy Gyllenhaal, a senior broadcast major, spoke live Sept. 8 with FOX News co-anchor Trace Gallagher about the reaction college students are having to the reemergence of the H1N1 virus, more commonly known as the "swine flu," as the fall semester begins.
Gyllenhaal had produced a segment for Phoenix14News on the viral outbreak at Wake Forest University and efforts underway at Elon University to prepare for the illness to strike.
FOX News asked Gyllenhaal to elaborate on his findings for its afternoon The Live Desk broadcast, and in a short phone interview, he shared with Gallagher how students appear to have a more relaxed attitude than administrators when it comes to the disease.
Gyllenhaal won first place earlier this year in a nationwide contest for collegiate broadcast journalists. He was one of five finalists in the Hearst Journalism Awards Program. Finalists were selected following a yearlong competition involving students at 110 member colleges and universities of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with accredited undergraduate journalism programs.
