Kennedy, who earned her elementary education degree from Elon in 2005, is a kindergarten teacher at North Graham Elementary School. On Wednesday, she was named the Alamance-Burlington School System 2009-2010 Teacher of the Year.
The following is an excerpt from the Burlington Times-News story on Kennedy:
Though she teaches young boys and girls, she looks far into the future.
“I help my students succeed in the real world,” said Kennedy, who is in her fourth year as a teacher. She does that by teaching them to work together with students from different backgrounds.
That will be crucial, she said, as a global economy requires working with people from all kinds of cultures.
She also brings technology into the classroom, using blogs, iPods and the Internet as teaching tools.
