Alumni Board holds fall meeting on Elon campus

Heading for Homecoming 2009 (Oct. 23-25), Elon’s Alumni Board was on campus Sept. 17-18 for its fall meeting. Attendees focused on planning for an expanded homecoming program and discussed next steps in efforts as diverse as the use of social media and ways to increase alumni financial support through the Ever Elon Campaign.

Jim Piatt, vice president for university advancement, reported on strategic planning. Gerry Francis, executive vice president, delivered a university update.

Other highlights included Schmoozapalooza, a career planning and networking event for students involving alumni volunteers from around the country. Members toured the just-opened and energy-efficient Lindner Hall, led by Elaine Durr, sustainability coordinator, and took part in the on-campus observance of the 8th anniversary of 9/11.

The 30-member board represents alumni and advises officials on programs and events to serve alumni at their various stages of life and to serve and support the university. Bill Coffman ’86, Greenville, NC, is current president of the group, which works closely with Sally Hutton, director of alumni relations, and her staff.
