All members of the Elon community are invited to donate used books to schools and university libraries in Ghana. It’s convenient to drop the books off at the weekly College Coffee gatherings on Sept. 22 and 29 and Oct. 6 and 13.
The book drive is again being coordinated by Professor Brian Digre, who annually leads study abroad groups to the African nation. Good quality, recent university-level books, along with books for students in primary, middle schools and high schools are welcomed.
The books are shipped free of charge on a U.S. Navy supply ship to Ghana through the efforts of Augie Vogel, a naval officer and former Peace Corps volunteer in Ghana.
Last May, 120 boxes of books from Elon arrived at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, prompting a letter of thanks from Pro-Vice-Chancellor Haruna Yakubu.
