Elon students compete in Model UN event at Georgetown University

The Elon University Model United Nations organization participated in a conference at Georgetown University Oct. 8-11, one featuring a wide variety of committees ranging from Peace and Security of the African Union, and The Council of Ministers of Saudi Arabia to the Suez Canal Crisis of 1956 and the First Punic War.

Among the 35 universities attending were Harvard, Princeton, Duke, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Point, and international delegations from McGill and Oxford.

Three Elon delegates won awards for being outstanding delegates in their committee: Mitch Plummer, a senior political science major from Raleigh; Brooke Kassner, a junior history and political science major from Switzerland; and Robert Dean, a first year political science and international studies major from South Africa. Fifteen Elon MUN students attended the conference.

Elon’s MUN will organize its own crisis simulation focused on South Asia for international relations classes on Nov. 15-16, and a Security Council simulation for Global Experience classes on Nov. 22-23.
