Teams can now register for the Elon Innovation Challenge, a creativity competition for college students in North Carolina held in conjunction with Stanford University's Global Innovation Tournament that will students to solve a common problem in about eight days while creating as much value as possible.
Teams will then convey their results in a short video posted to YouTube. The mystery problem will be revealed on Nov. 4 and video submissions will be due Nov. 13.
In addition to competing for the top three prizes, participating teams will be awarded experiential prizes at the Elon Innovation Showcase on Nov. 18 in the LaRose Digital Theater in Koury Business Center. The winners of the Elon Innovation Challenge will compete in the Global Innovation Tournament. Elon students are encouraged to form a team with friends.
An official activity of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the competition encourages students to work in teams, challenge assumptions, seize opportunities and be creative. Organizers say it gives students a taste of what it’s like to be entrepreneurial: students must have an impact while working with tight constraints, such as limited time and resources. Great ideas are not enough – they actually need to implement their ideas and deliver results.
Local and then global judges will determine who has had the biggest impact during the eight days. The audience at the showcase will choose “The Audience Favorite” submission, which wins a separate prize. Awards will be made to registered charities of the top three team’s choices.
1st Place: $400
2nd Place: $200
3rd Place: $100
The Elon Innovation Challenge is hosted by Student Entrepreneurial Enterprise Development (SEED) and the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. More information and registration can be found at http://eloninnovation.org.
